I would give him a suggestion as I use MX Linux and Linux Mint MATE daily on my laptops, but I've only really ever dabbled in FTP stuff on my Win10 desktop (hence how I set up Filezilla for him). I forget what he uses to connect to the FTP server on his PC from his Mac.I think it's an old version of Transmit FTP.works fine though.Īnyway, is there an FTP server on Linux he could also start and stop through simple GUI commands and also admin through a GUI as well? He's not tech-savvy enough to like / know how to use the command line much. If he had to change things, he administered the server settings from the Filezilla Server GUI interface. Problem is, I can't seem to find any easier-to-use GUI setups for FTP on Linux (maybe I've missed something)? On Windows he would start and stop the server VERY easily from the Start Menu with the 'Start Filezilla Server' and 'Stop Filezilla Server' commands whenever he wanted as he preferred to keep it disabled 'for security' until he needed it, and then would simply start it again until he was done, then stop it again. As of a few days ago, he is now happily using Mint XFCE on the same older PC laptop (which I've also upgraded with an SSD hard drive) and very much enjoying it! He can't stand some of the changes in Windows 10 so won't upgrade to that and, at my suggest and from some of his own browsing around online, wanted to give Linux a try. He's been running Windows 7 on an older laptop and using Filezilla FTP Server that I'd set up for him to transfer MP3 music to his ancient PowerPC Macbook in his garage (he only uses the PowerPC Macbook for listening to music at this point). He's not SUPER tech-savvy, but he's pretty good for his age and use case. Hi all - I'm looking for a lightweight and easy FTP server that has GUI controls.Įssentially, I'm looking for my older uncle.
